Experimental
Courses
- should only be proposed if Selected Advanced
Topics (470) courses cannot be used and if the course offering is truly experimental in nature and may not become a permanent course. All other new courses should be proposed via Continuous Course review or for the next Cal Poly catalog.
- are
not included in the Cal Poly Catalog.
- are
valid for a maximum of two years (to continue to teach the
course beyond two years, propose the X course as a New Course).
- have the same due dates as courses proposed during Continuous Review
Academic
Senate resolution AS-503-98/CC
stated that faculty should propose a course as experimental
only “in compelling circumstances.” It also stated
that the Academic Senate Curriculum Committee would review
proposals for experimental courses.

| Proposal
and Review Processes for Experimental (x) Courses: |

- Forward
the proposal to the department head/chair, who then forwards
the proposal to the college dean. The college may require
review by the college curriculum committee or the committee
chair..

- College
dean forwards the proposal to the Academic Programs Office.
The proposal will also be reviewed by the Chair of the Academic
Senate Curriculum Committee.

- Approved
course proposals are forwarded to Class Scheduling.
