| The
Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies is offered through
the Adult Degree Program (ADP) and housed in Cal Poly Continuing
Education. It is an undergraduate degree program for working
adults structured to be completed on a part time basis. The
ADP advances Cal Poly’s mission of service and outreach
to the larger community.
The
BA in Interdisciplinary Studies was designed by a Faculty
Advisory Committee with representatives from the College of
Liberal Arts, the College of Science and Mathematics, the
College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences and assisting the Faculty Advisory
Committee were representatives from the Office of Academic
Records, the Office of Admissions and Recruitment, Kennedy
Library, and both Cuesta and Allan Hancock Colleges.
The
process of reviewing the BA in Interdisciplinary Studies has
undergone the normal curriculum review process, included consultation
and review the Office of Admissions and Recruitment, the Office
of Academic Records, the
College of Liberal Arts Curriculum Committee, the Academic
Senate Curriculum Committee, the Academic Senate and the Academic
Deans’ Council.
Students
complete at least 90 transferable units and are general education
or Inter-segmental General Education Transfer Curriculum certified
before starting course work at Cal Poly. The program is structured
on a cohort model and all courses needed to earn the degree
will be offered by the ADP. The courses will be offered on
evenings and weekends. ADP students will not enroll in regularly
scheduled Cal Poly courses. The curriculum of the BA in Interdisciplinary
Studies meets all Cal Poly academic requirements for a bachelor’s
degree.
A
standing Faculty Program Committee representing at least three
colleges will ensure continued academic oversight including
the selection of classes and instructors. All courses offered
and instructors teaching in the BA in Interdisciplinary Studies
program must also be approved by the appropriate department
chair.
The
BA in Interdisciplinary Studies will be a financially self-supporting,
special session program as authorized by CSU Executive Order
802 and will not use any state general fund monies.
Compensation
for faculty teaching in the ADP will be negotiated by the
California Faculty Association (CFA) and the Cal Poly Administration.
